Our Policies

These are designed to keep our studio clean and functional for all members and students alike.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask any of our employees for clarification!

General Studio Policies

  • All patrons are responsible for fully cleaning all surfaces and materials used.

  • Only studio-provided clay and glazes may be used unless prior approval is given by the Studio Manager.

  • Do not embed foreign objects (e.g., rocks, paper, marbles) in clay without express permission from the Studio Manager.

  • No glazes, slips, tools, or equipment may be removed from the studio at any time.

  • Clearly label your clay bag with your name, class day, and clay type. Example: Waleed, Wednesday AM, Buncombe White.

Class Policies

  • We reserve the right to cancel or reschedule classes based on enrollment. If a class is canceled, you will have the option to transfer to another class or receive a full refund.

  • Please note: No refunds or credits will be issued for missed individual classes within a session.

Kiln Policies

  • All greenware must be signed on the bottom before placing it on the greenware shelf.

  • For safety and equipment preservation, no foreign materials (e.g., textiles, metals—except high-fire wire—glass, paper, or dry chemicals) are permitted in the kiln.

  • Firing priority is given to student work. Kiln rentals for outside makers are accepted on a space-available basis and may take up to two weeks per firing.

  • Studio glazes are included in glaze firing fees, but glazing instruction is not. Please be familiar with our glazes and processes.

  • Work must be free of glaze on the bottom.

  • If a piece melts to the kiln shelf, a $10 fee per occurrence will be charged.

  • Renters are financially responsible for any damage caused by incorrect firing temperatures or glaze issues.

  • Kiln shelf damage fees:

    • Minor glaze drip: $10

    • Half shelf replacement: $48

    • Full shelf replacement: $90

    • Kiln disassembly/reassembly (for large work): $40

Firing Costs

  • Bisque Firing: $0.04 per cubic inch (measured at the greenware stage)

  • Glaze Firing: $0.06 per cubic inch (2-inch height minimum, $2 minimum per piece)

  • Firing temperatures:

    • Bisque: Cone 04

    • Glaze: Cone 6

Please remember: Community firing involves shared equipment and handling, so some risk to your work is inherent.
